Getting here

There are really only three modes of transport available to reach Chez Hirondelles - boat and car; plane and car; or train and car. Some details of these are given below to help you find your best choice.

Notwithstanding the principal mode of travel, the last few miles will always be by car. Although we are in the commune of Chassaignes, the actual village is some mile and a quarter distant.

Our hamlet of six dwellings is called Les Landes, but too small for most maps. Riberac is our nearest main town and is just 15 minutes away.

The excellent 'viaMichelin' map & route planner website is 'linked' below to assist in planning your journey. It provides any maps required; three options of routes (Michelin recommended, most economic & quickest) between your home and ours; 'stop over' suggestions, and an analysis of time, fuel costs and auto-route toll costs.

On the route finder - key in your departure address, key in Chassaignes for the town and 24600 for the post code for your destination. Our advice is to select the Michelin recommended route option.


By Ferry/Tunnel & Car

Traveling by car always means crossing (or going under) the Channel. There are several options available - it really depends on the locality of your home. We suggest you try the following web sites as there are variations in price and new companies entering the market -

By Air & Car

A choice of four airports serve this region - Bergerac, Bordeaux, Limoges and Poiters. This a rapidly expanding sector and very competitive. Flight time-tables and costs vary considerably.

So, if you are seriously considering this option of travel, we recommend browsing the low cost carriers as early as possible. It is useful to understand these airlines ticket pricing strategy to get the best value -

Car hire is available at all these airports, again prices vary considerably and a little research can save money. We advise the booking of a vehicle when purchasing your airline tickets.

We run Saturday to Saturday, but don't forget our B&B facilities if you find the best flight values are other than a Saturday arrival.

Bergerac
Flights from Bristol, Birmingham, Exeter, Southampton,  and Stansted airports.

By Train & Car

Our nearest station is at Angouleme, about 50 minutes drive away. Travel on the excellent high speed TGV service from either Paris Montparnasse/Nord or Lille Europa stations.

These, previously, are reached using the also excellent EuroStar service from Waterloo (soon to be St Pancras), with car hire available from Angouleme station.

But please note - the Paris option necessitates a change of stations and the use of the Paris metro (more exciting, but also more stress), whilst at Lille Europe only a change of platforms is required!
